‘BETWEEN THE LINES’
(Sponsored by RPG Public Art initiative)
“I made him larger than life (6 foot face) with an impish smile that so emulates his personality. Fame creates illusionary perceptions in the mind of the masses – we think we know someone well, just because we see so much of him on the playing field and thus perceive it as reality. I have tried to recreate that illusion in the sculpture. When one drives past, we get a fleeting glimpse of his face with the help of the negative spaces in between the bars. Alternatively, within the 12 bars, you see characters, like spectators in a stadium.
In my bid to use extremely resilient material which defines the future, I used carbon fibre, with an alloy of aluminium-chromium in between, to add a sparkle of silver. These have been crafted with technological precision.”
